New year, new SOTP, so here goes nothing.
State of Me: Not...great, honestly? I'm not sure if it's just winter, or the fact that the holidays and being around family kind of took it out of me, or that because of my promotion at work all my big deadlines have basically shifted to a month earlier than they had been before, or all of these at once, but I'm feeling really pulled in a bunch of different directions and like I can't say no to any of it and it's not a fun experience. I know I'll get through, but it hasn't happened yet and I just want to be done already. Ugh. Anyway.
Rosie: She had a very eventful last half of the year (good and bad), but I feel like it's left her in a pretty solid place. I made the choice to have her miss out on NYE merman plot--though she does have a top level for earlier in the night--so she even got to end the year without being in peril! Great way to start 2020, she's very pleased.
I don't have anything big planned for her right now, in part because a lot of my writing bandwidth recently has been taken up by getting Darlington at least partially situated, but since two of the people she's most connected to are getting new canon at the end of the month (SO SOON, CAN'T WAIT) I imagine she'll be wrapped up in whatever havoc all of that wreaks for Nick and Sabrina. That said, there are a few things/half-formed ideas I'd like to try and do something with in one way or another with her this year:
Darlington: Still so new! While I haven't gotten him out and about quite as much as I'd hoped to (though he also has a pre-merman-invasion top level for NYE), I'm pretty pleased with the interactions he's had so far--mostly with Alex, of course, but I'm already loving the conversations he's having with Lincoln and Blue. It's my goal to post an actual EP for him before the end of the month, so look for that to come sometime soon.
Ruth already has quite a bit planned for Alex that Darlington's going to be pretty closely involved with (and, you know, he'll eventually be pretty closely involved with her, so), and I'm excited to get going on all of that. In addition to the truth about his disappearance that's going to be hanging over their heads for a while until it all comes out in a terrible way, he's also going to have some big and incredibly stupid feelings about the fact that she'll be stripping starting...soon? This month? Sometime soon.
I've spent a lot of time trying to get my head around it, and will likely spend much much more, but the thing I really want to make sure I get right is the balance between framing all his objections in a way that makes sense for him as a character, doesn't stifle anything for anyone else involved, and doesn't turn him into too much of a complete asshole. I feel like I can do it, but it also feels like a challenge--though one I'm excited about, so that probably counts for more. However it shakes out, I think it's going to be great.
I also want to get him started at Barton once the new term begins, and find him a job. In canon, it's mentioned that he works (or at least volunteers?) at the Peabody Museum at Yale, so I'm leaning fairly heavily towards giving him some kind of part-time job doing visitor services or something. That also means I'll likely be able to play around with the fact that the Darrow History exhibit is always mysteriously closed or under remodeling or something equally inconvenient, which will make him super irritated.
Basically, things are pretty much going well for my pups, even if my real life is stressful, and that's not nothing. <3

That said, there are a few things/half-formed ideas I'd like to try and do something with in one way or another with her this year:
- She's more than overdue for an item post, and I'd already been meaning to do something about that...so I probably actually should. I think I'm still going to go with the nicer and more simple item I've had in mind (her coat from home, which she last saw hanging on a branch in yet another pocket universe), but I'm still kind of tempted to give her something a bit larger and more complex, possibly connected to some kind of canon update, at some point. Maybe since she has a backlog of items, I'll do something else later in the year, depending on what's going on in-game and out.
- Her petsitting gig is still going strong in the background, but I feel like with everything else it kind of fell by the wayside in terms of it being an actual thing for her in-game. It's probably even more important, too, now that she's no longer at the Home, so I'd love to weave that back in where I can in threads or EPs.
- I should also get her an actual job, since one cannot live on part-time petsitting cash alone, so that may generate at least an EP or two this year once I figure out what kind of thing she should be doing. My initial thought was getting her a job at the museum gift shop, but since I think I may have Darlington doing something at the museum, I'm wondering if I shouldn't have her get a job somewhere else just for variety's sake.
- At some point, though I'm not quite sure how (and it'd need to be squared away with other folks anyway), the whole 'my flatmate's terrible boyfriend basically threatened to punch me in the face' thing that happened while Neil was in his homeplot coma back in November should probably come to light? I'd excused not doing anything with it right away because there was so much going on and I didn't want one more thing, but I also feel like it's something that can't stay hidden forever.
